About Much Wenlock & the Christmas Fayre
Much Wenlock is a quintessential English town steeped in history, based on the foundation of the Priory c.650 A.D now managed by English Heritage and is one of our famous tourist attractions. Together with a multitude of black and white buildings, elegant Georgian houses, winding shutts (streets), Holy Trinity Church and church green, tea shops and wide variety of independent shops. The historical landscape surrounding the Fayre adds to the ambience providing a perfect setting.
Our unique claim to fame is the birthplace of the Founding Father of the Modern Day Olympic Movement – Dr.William Penny Brookes [Wenlock Olympian Society]
THE CHRISTMAS FAYRE
The Fayre kicks off at 10.00 although many Much Wenlock Shops are open before this! Throughout the day there will be a variety of performances and entertainment for children, and for the young at heart too (check the programme for when events are due to start), complementing the eclectic mix of over 100 festive stalls each selling their own unique merchandise. The day ends with an atmospheric candle lit procession down the High Street (see entertainment) and traditional Christmas Carol singing on the Square from 16.30.
It truly is a fantastic place to visit so please do come along and join us. Entrance is free!
